Oscars 2018: SHINY!

There was a decent amount of shiny…but the magpie in me ALWAYS wants more glitter.

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior

I can 100% guarantee that this is the first and only time Jennifer Lawrence + Dior = Good. Their partnership has produced less than stellar results, but this is really superb – and as a bonus, was one of my picks! I love how it looks different on stage from on the red carpet – it has a very liquid quality to it. Oh, and it also looks good when you’re heaving your wine-drunk ass over a row of chairs. Never change, Jen.

Lupita Nyong’o in Atelier Versace

This seemed to be universally beloved. And with good reason – it’s pretty great. Although the black strap across her chest reminds me a little of a bandolier of bullet cartridges. I get the whole “warrior” vibe, but it’s not my favorite imagery.

Gal Gadot in Givnechy

Gorgeous – even more so in movement. The “flapper” look works on her…although it’s hard to imagine a look that wouldn’t work on her. She’s incredibly likable and charismatic.

Abbie Cornish in Elie Saab

Abbie is one of those actresses for whom I have total face blindness. I couldn’t pick her out of a crowd of one. So naturally I was wondering why she was at the Oscars? Turns out she was in “There Billboards”…anyway, this is a solidly good Elie Saab (except for the weird pouch of fabric over her lady bits? What even is that?). I like it significantly better from the back than the front, and as always, would like it 100% more in a color.

Sandra Bullock in Louis Vuitton

Lovely – the beading is so smooth and beautifully done it almost looks like a pattern printed on the fabric. It’s a fun trompe l’oeil illusion.

Zoey Deutch in Elie Saab

Zoey definitely got the better Elie Saab for the night. I’m in love with this silvery-lilac color. I was curious why she was there as well – I think of her more as a TV actress (Ringer, anyone!?), but apparently she was in “The Disaster Artist”.
