In which Meghan makes me jealous by wearing my favorite tartan.
Meghan and Harry made their first official visit to Scotland today with stops in Edinburgh and at Holyroodhouse. They were welcomed by huge crowds outside Edinburgh castle where they met the Royal Marine Band – and Cruachan IV, the Shetland pony mascot of the Royal Regiment of Scotland! Next they stopped by a cafe which donates all its proceeds to combating homelessness, and they finished their day with a reception for local youths at Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s residence in Scotland.
Meghan is wearing a Burberry coat in Black Watch tartan, with pants by Veronica Beard, and a Strathberry cross-body bag. I love this coat. This is my absolute favorite tartan and an obvious choice for her first Scottish trip. She even matches the pony!
I’m fascinated by her rock solid commitment to pants. She has been cultivating a very slouchy chic aesthetic throughout her official visits, which is interesting given that it’s a bit of a departure from her pre-Harry style. The cross-body bag really ads to the casual vibe and is probably the first time a royal family member has worn a purse that way during a public outing. It’s small details like this that are so interesting to watch and consider why she and her team are making the choices they’re making.
At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if her wedding “dress” was actually a cool, slouchy pantsuit!
