Well, it’s only a month late, but let’s finish up the royal wedding! I cannot believe this has taken me so long – one of the perils of having three jobs…Hoping to move on to some other stuff I missed during a busy May this week – check back for a Cannes recap, the Tony Awards, and various other premieres/royals outings from the last month!
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge in Alexander McQueen
Embed from Getty ImagesThank heavens for the good people over at What Kate Wore for sorting out the mystery of Kate’s Alexander McQueen. As most people who follow HRH will have noted, this coat is VERY familiar. At first blush it appeared to be the same cream colored McQueen she first wore to Princess Charlotte’s christening back in 2015. However, it seems that this is a wholly new McQueen creation in a tricky to pinpoint light yellow. The matching hat with the pale gold flowers underneath is truly lovely.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte in custom Givenchy
How god damned cute are these little nuggets! This is the first time we have seen George in long pants – in upper crust British society, little ones wear shorts until they’re older. The outfits the Bridesmaids and Pageboys wore were also designed by Givenchy and were supposed to mirrror the looks worn by Harry and Meghan.
Queen Elizabeth in Stuart Parvin and Angela Kelly
I adore this color combo on the Queen. I feel like we’ve definitely seen the floral dress before and I remember loving it then as well.
Princess Anne
A lot of people compared this to one of Hugh Hefner’s signature smoking jackets….and they aren’t wrong.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall in Philip Treacy
I know all is right in the world because Camilla is wearing an absurdly large hat.
Doria Ragland in Oscar de la Renta and Stephen Jones Millinery
Meghan’s mom looked fantastic in this pale green Oscar de la Renta coat and dress combo. She was absolutely glowing throughout the whole ceremony. And I love that she kept her nose ring in!
Carole Middleton in Catherine Walker
Lovely color and cut on Carole.
Sophie, Countess of Wessex in Suzannah
I’ve said it before, but Sophie has been killing it lately – I love this two piece look from Suzannah.
Lady Louise Windsor
I can’t believe how grown up Lady Louise (Sophie’s daughter) has been looking lately! She’s opting for more and more grown up looks of late.
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York
After being snubbed for Will and Kate’s wedding, Fergie was back in the fold! It seems like the Firm has come around on her a bit over the last few years, and there are always the persistent rumors that she and Prince Andrew are getting back together. This isn’t my favorite look – it’s pretty unflattering around the middle.
Princess Beatrice in Roksanda
Bea and Eugenie were roundly mocked for their absurd hats from Will and Kate’s wedding, so it seems this time around they toned it down quite a bit. I absolutely ADORE this Roksanda dress on Bea – it’s so unique and interesting and textural, but still completely appropriate.
Princess Eugenie in Gainsbourg
This…I am not a fan of. It feels too casual, too short, too unflattering, and too much like Jackie O cosplay.
Zara Tindall in Claire Mischevani
I forgot Zara was pregnant! She’s apparently due in the summer. Had to dig for a designer ID on this coat – it’s super pretty!
Autumn Phillips in Hen House
Lovely, it’s kind of the platonic ideal of a coat dress.
Countess Karen Spencer in Pamella Roland
Lady Spencer is married to Princess Diana’s brother, and it was a lovely gesture by Harry to include so many of his Spencer relatives in the festivities.
Lady Kitty Spencer in Dolce and Gabbana Alta Moda
I could not possibly love this more. This stunning green and orange floral dress from Dolce and Gabbana’s latest extravagant collection will absolutely make my “Best Dressed of 2018” list. Lady Kitty is Princess Diana’s niece and has a burgeoning career as a model. Sincerely, everything about this look is perfect, from the orange accessories to the phenomenal fascinator.
Priyanka Chopra in Vivienne Westwood and Abigail Spencer in Alessandra Rich
Priyanka is good friends with Meghan, as is Abigail who was in Suits. Priya is wearing Vivienne Westwood and a Phillip Treacy hat. As always with Vivienne, I’m not in love with it and find the folding along the bust frustrating. I like Abigail’s blue and white polka dot number much better – it has a very British WWII era feel to it!
Serena Williams in Versace
Serena looks totally fierce here in Versace.
Troian Bellisario in Temperley London
SPENCER! It thrills me that a “Pretty Little Liar” was there. Troian is married to Patrick J. Adams, Megs on screen love interest. I am not mad about this cream colored look from Temperley London, it feels a little dowdy.
Jacinda Barrett in Emilia Wickstead
Jacinda is married to Meghan’s Suits co-star, Gabriel Macht. I love this maroon midi-dress from Emilia Wickstead. Emilia was pegged as a potential wedding dress designer – and she later claimed that Claire’s Givenchy creation bore more than a passing similarity to one of her gowns. I’m glad someone wore one of her looks, but she made a real PR mess for herself by being petty.
Jessica Mulroney in DiCarlo Couture
Jessica is Meghan’s best friend and reported stylist. She was on hand to wrangle her twin boys, Brian and John, who served as pageboys. A few outlets have been screaming about Jessica having a “Pippa” moment, where her assets upstaged the bride. We don’t have any pictures of the front of her custom bright blue dress from Canadian brand Di Carlo, but from what we can see she looks great!
Gina Torres in Costarellos
Gina was also on Suits with Meghan, and I am not crazy about any of this look. The hat feels like it belongs to a completely different outfit.
Joss Stone in Hobbs
I have not thought about Joss Stone in probably 10 years. I have no idea why she was there – does she run in British high society circles!? Is Meghan just a big fan?! Anyway, she looks fine, if a bit casual.
Sarah Rafferty in Lanvin
I love this – it’s incredibly elegant.
Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley in The Vampire’s Wife
Embed from Getty ImagesIf I never see another Vampire’s Wife dress again, it will be too soon. This dress has become absolutely ubiquitous over the last year or so and I am pretty tired of it. This iteration is fine, and I do appreciate how she matched the flowers in her fascinator to the colors of the dress.
Chloe Madeley in Reiss
This is 100% too casual and too much skin for a royal wedding. Hard pass.
Sofia Wellesley in Valentino
I love me some Valentino and this upholstered midi-dress is glorious.
Marcus Mumford and Carey Mulligan in Erdem
Pretty! She tends to opt for neutral colors or black, so I’m thrilled to see her in something brighter!
Nacho Figueras and Delfina Blaquier in Àcheval
Delfina here is the wife of international polo star and romance novel writer, Nacho Figueras. Which is a sentence I love typing. She looks suitably dramatic.
