Featuring a giant fashion clam and a dangerously unsecured boob fan…
Cardi B in vintage Mugler Haute Couture
Embed from Getty ImagesCardi B! I don’t even know where to begin! How about with her history making win as the first solo female rapper to take home the prize for best rap album. Or her delightfully giddy and sweet acceptance speech. Or her killer performance. But for me, it begins and ends with this enormous (literally and metaphorically) statement piece from Mugler’s 1995 collection. Apparently it hasn’t been worn since it debuted in the mid-90’s and with Lady Gaga sticking to her new, more traditional Oscar nominee wardrobe, I can’t think of anyone better to pull off an utterly delightful, completely bonkers look like this.
Kacey Musgraves in Valentino Haute Couture
Embed from Getty ImagesKacey released one of my favorite albums of the year and I’m thrilled that Grammys agreed. I do wish she’d chosen a less dour and precariously positioned Valentino though.
Kacey Musgraves in Valentino Haute Couture
Embed from Getty ImagesHer second look was better and featured Valentino’s signature ruffles without the danger of a wardrobe malfunction.
Alicia Keys in Giorgio Armani
Embed from Getty ImagesI didn’t get a chance to watch the telecast, but I heard that Alicia was a charming host! She looks phenomenal here and I have enormous respect for her now years long commitment to eschewing makeup.
Katy Perry in Balmain
Embed from Getty ImagesKaty wore the first of two Balmain’s from the night, and unlike the latter, I absolutely adore it. This cotton candy confection comes from the Spring 2019 Couture show and I love how it plays into Katy’s bubblegum pop aesthetic but with a grown-up, haute couture twist.
Kylie Jenner in Balmain
Embed from Getty ImagesAaaand…this is the second Balmain. It’s a glorified straight jacket.
Jameela Jamil in J. Mendel
Embed from Getty ImagesJameela is a complete delight and I think Tahani would approve of this look.
Anna Kendrick in Ralph and Russo
Embed from Getty ImagesI love feathers and I love sparkles, but this is too feathered and too short and it’s not doing anything for me.
Nina Dobrev in Christian Dior
Embed from Getty ImagesBoring.
Bebe Rexha in Monsoori
Embed from Getty ImagesSo, SO much tulle. And like feathers and sparkles, I also love tulle. But there’s a limit and Bebe found it.
Camila Cabello in Armani Privé
Embed from Getty ImagesI’m usually a big Armani fan, but this reads a tad tacky to me.
