And just under the wire before tonight’s red carpet, here are my picks for the “Best Supporting Actress” nominees!
Amy Adams
Previously this season…
My Oscars Pick: Sachin & Babi Fall 2018 RTW
Amy REALLY likes blues and reds, so I would love to see her combine her two faves in this stunning velvet and sequined column dress from Sachin & Babi (modeled here by Maye Musk, the incredible sexagenarian supermodel and mother of nutball Elon Musk)!
Regina King
Previously this season…
My Oscars Pick: Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2019
Take a moment and scroll through the “Previously this season…” slideshow while looking at the necklines of all Regina’s dresses. All the same right?! Freaky! So it seems Regina King really likes the way a slight v-neck looks, and she’s not wrong – she’s looked stellar throughout awards season. She has favored more streamlined silhouettes, but I’d like to see her accept her almost inevitable Oscar in this ballgown (yes, with a slight v!) from Pamella Roland. Go big or go home, Regina!
Marina de Tavira
Previously this season…
My Oscars Pick: Rami Al Ali Fall 2018 Haute Couture
While very well known in Mexico, Marina is a relative newcomer in the states. Since they started promoting “Roma”, Marina and co-star Yalitza have been using the same stylist, and I think Yalitza has generally had more consistent success. I am absolutely dying to see someone in this blue and gold gown from Rami Al Ali and would love to see Marina end on a high note.
Emma Stone
Previously this season…
My Oscars Pick: Andrew Gn Pre-Fall 2019
If the adage “the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior” holds true, then we can safely say that Emma Stone will wear Louis Vuitton, it will be custom, and I will probably not like it. This past awards season, she exclusively wore LV and her ironclad contract will surely include the biggest red carpet event of the year. Knowing that, I would love for her to go completely off book in this upholstered, feathered, and joyous creation from Andrew Gn! Couldn’t you just picture this popping up in a somewhat more colorful version of “The Favourite”!?
Rachel Weisz
Previously this season…
My Oscars Pick: Ronald van der Kemp Spring 2019 Couture
Aside from her partially feathered Givenchy, I have largely been unmoved by Rachel’s awards show run. She is certainly a fan of ruffles though, so I picked for her this gorgeous and sustainably sourced floral gown from Ronald van der Kemp, the Dutch couturier who crafts all his looks from already existing materials and cast off fabrics.
