Golden Globes: Big Little Women

“Big Little Lies” was the big TV winner tonight and the cast looked universally great picking up their trophies.

This is lovely, particularity from the back. And 100 million times better than anything Ricardo Tisci has given the Kardashian’s over the years. After a few years of turning out all things tight, trashy, and sheer for Kim et al, it’s a nice reminder that the house can still put out something classy and elegant.

I doubt this is setting anyone on fire right now, and I doubt it will be memorable a year from now, but it’s classically Reese and relatively unimpeachable.

This dress is about as simple as they come, and clearly a blank slate to let those stellar Lorraine Schwartz emerald earrings shine.

Shailene Woodley in Ralph Lauren

Shailene’s taste usually runs a little more “hippy love child” than this, but I always appreciate it when stars switch things up. I like this, although on the runway the top showed as less potentially sheer, but that could be due to the photographers flashes. If you click to the right you’ll see that the top is a hounds-tooth pattern, which I am totally charmed by. Shailene was also one of the women who brought a female activist with her as her date. Accompanying her was Calina Lawrence, a musician, member of the Suquamish Tribe, and activist for indigenous rights whom Shailene met while protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Laura also brought a female activist with her – Mónica Ramírez, the head of the National Farmworkers Women’s Alliance. That is totally awesome. Her Armani gown, less so. Despite the paltry attempt at some glittery embellishments, this is pretty boring.
