2017 has been….a year. A lot of personal highs for me, a lot of lows for America, Democracy, and basically everything else.
To cap off a mixed bag of a year, lets take a look at who nailed it on the red carpet this year. This is the first of two posts – I just couldn’t narrow it down! I tried to divide the posts by cocktail wear and red carpet gowns.
Take a look, and don’t forget to vote at the end for your top THREE looks of the year!
Ruth Negga in Oscar de la Renta at the Vanity Fair Oscars PartyEmbed from Getty Images
Ruth started the year off right with this adorably sparkly number from OdlR. I liked this more than what she wore to the ceremony.
Cara Delevnigne in Burberry at “Valerian” London PremiereEmbed from Getty Images
Good suit. GREAT diamonds.
Kate Middleton in Rochas at the Chelsea Flower ShowEmbed from Getty Images
Kate has sometimes struggled with things that aren’t gowns or coat dresses, but she nailed it a few times in the cocktail/day dress department. She doesn’t wear patterns often…but I love this on her.
Denée Benton in Oscar de la Renta at the Tony AwardsEmbed from Getty Images
I always appreciate it when someone color coordinates with the step and repeat. This is glorious.
Kate Middleton in Erdem on Germany/Poland TourEmbed from Getty Images
Another floral pattern for Kate! This was overall a very fashion forward tour for her.

Couldn’t find a designer credit for this to save my life, but my best guess would be Mary Katrantzou or Peter Pilotto – someone who likes to play with patterns. Another one who coordinated well with the step and repeat!
Brie Larson in Oscar de la Renta at :A King Kong PremiereEmbed from Getty Images
The third OdlR to make the list, I love the way it looks like she was wrapped in an extra fancy ream of Paper Source wrapping paper.
Celine Dion in Schiaparelli at Celine Dion Collection LaunchEmbed from Getty Images
Celine famously started working with stylist Law Roach this year, who also works with Zendaya and Demi Lovato. For a few weeks this summer, she was swanning out of Parisian hotels looking alternately fabulous and over the top insane. It was a lot of fun to watch. This was my favorite look from that particular sartorial marathon.
Lindsey Vonn in Gucci at the LACMA Art and Film GalaEmbed from Getty Images
This gala was a hot mess, but Lindsey somehow managed to snag herself one of my favorite Gucci’s of the year.
Kate Middleton in Alexander McQueen at Royal AscotEmbed from Getty Images
Kate and McQueen is always a fabulous combination, and I love this classic look from Royal Ascot.
Allison Williams in Schiaparelli at “Get Out” ScreeningEmbed from Getty Images
I covered this one earlier this month and took a shot in the dark guess about the designer which ended up being right. Pretty proud of that, and still love this.
Kerry Washington in Carolina Herrera at the Women Making History AwardsEmbed from Getty Images
This is so textural and fun! Kerry can be hit and miss, but this is a great match of star + dress.
