Red Carpet: The Best of the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards

Sunday’s Critics’ Choice Awards further muddied the awards season waters. Glen Close tied with Lady Gaga for Best Actress, while “Roma” beat out “Green Book” after a weeks worth of bad press. There were few surprises on the red carpet though with no one taking too many risks and everyone looking pretty chic.

This is an awards season high for both Yalitza and Prada. I absolutely adore this whole look.

Rachel Brosnahan in Carolina Herrera

This is my favorite white pantsuit since Hillary Clinton at the DNC. And those earrings are to die for.

Regina King in Michael Kors

If anyone will get a 10/10 for their awards season run, it might be Regina King. She knows what works for her and wears the hell out of it.

There’s something…vulva-esque about this. A less anatomical way to describe it would be “sculptural”, which is exactly how Giorgio Armani defined his Fall 2018 collection, which was one of my all time favorites. That collection also gave us Glenn Close’s cape from last week and Cate Blanchett’s “Madame X” moment from Cannes. I love this but wish her hair was more sleek and less beachy.

I am always here for red velvet and a deep V, although I wish her makeup was toned down about 10%.

Patricia Clarkson in Georges Chakra

POCKETS! Seriously though, how freaking cool is this?

Patricia Arquette in J. Mendel

Easily the best she’s ever looked.

Millicent Simmonds in Marchesa

Millicent is the 15 year old deaf star of “A Quiet Place” and she looks stunning. This is age appropriate and elegant. I look forward to seeing more of her on the red carpet.

During her press tour for “Oceans 8” she wore a lot of ultra-feminine ballgowns and it just didn’t feel like “her”. This sleek, glittering sheath from Elisabetta Franchi seems much more in her wheelhouse.

Nina Dobrev in Valentino

I was shocked to see Nina make some of the worst dressed lists. I love this! Sure, her hair looks like she just came from the gym, but this dress is genuinely great – or at the very least unobjectionable!

Connie Britton in Galvan

Damn, Galvan has had quite the week! This is a really hard color to pull off but she looks gorgeous and her hair is as glorious as ever.

Chrissy Metz in Kate Spade

She looks really beautiful in this.

Carrie Coon in Jean Paul Gaultier

Carrie is one of my favorite actresses, but she doesn’t usually nail it on the red carpet. The back of this is the most interesting bit, but all in all it’s chic and flattering.

Gemma Chan in Jason Wu

Jason Wu also had a good, floral-y week. She should have worn this to the Globes.

D’Arcy Carden in Elisabetta Franchi

The excellent choice of accessories really takes this to the next level.

Jodie Comer in Zuhair Murad

Much like Kristen Bell’s look from the Globes, this is a surprisingly subdued Murad. Normally I would object to the sheerness, but this is so dreamy and floaty I’m giving it a pass.
