Kirsten was my best dressed from the Oscars, and almost a year later this still holds up. This is the kind of gown you could look at 50 years from now and still swoon over.

Best of 2017: Cocktail Edition

2017 has been….a year. A lot of personal highs for me, a lot of lows for America, Democracy, and basically everything else.

To cap off a mixed bag of a year, lets take a look at who nailed it on the red carpet this year. This is the first of two posts – I just couldn’t narrow it down! I tried to divide the posts by cocktail wear and red carpet gowns.

Take a look, and don’t forget to vote at the end for your top THREE looks of the year!

Ruth started the year off right with this adorably sparkly number from OdlR. I liked this more than what she wore to the ceremony.

This one time, I wore my hair in Princess Leia buns for a whole year.

The Brits handed out some theater awards, Lin Manuel debuted a surprise, and everyone basically looked good!

Red Carpet: Cate Blanchett’s Coolness

Recently, my boyfriend asked me if there were any celebrities where my personal affection for them might cloud my judgement about what they’re wearing. The answer is “Uh, yeah…duh”. I don’t think I will ever like something a Kardashian wears, by virtue of them being a Kardashian. Just like my love for Diane Krueger makes me eager to forgive her sartorial sins.

Cate Blanchett has always been one of those celebrities in the latter category- her inherent coolness allows her to carry off things that lesser beings would get lost in.

Red Carpet: Louis Vuitton Reinvents Sleeves

This was an event honoring Louis Vuitton and current head designer Nicholas Ghesquière. Unfortunately for Nick, the biggest takeaway was “WOW that’s ugly”…

Let’s take a deep breath and a palate cleansing look at Justin Theroux, because it’s all downhill from here…Goes without saying, everyone is wearing LV.

Red Carpet: Gotham Awards 2017

Greta has very intriguing taste, which can sometimes land on the wrong side of “kooky”. This is just right though- interesting, but lovely. I haven’t seen Lady Bird yet, but hope to before awards season is fully underway and it starts snagging prizes left and right.

Sometimes it’s nice to just look at something very pretty. This is very, VERY pretty. Brava, Anna!

Red Carpet: 2017 Governors Awards

And the first Oscars have been handed out! Mostly a good excuse to have a red carpet, let’s see who’s already out ahead in the awards season fashion race.

I like the sum of this more than the parts. The embroidery is beautiful, the crop top and skirt are silly, but the overall vibe is very J. Law, and better than what Dior has done to her the last few years.

Red Carpet: Kate Bosworth Goes 7/8

I find Kate Bosworth fascinating. Nominally an actress, she seems to make her bread and butter walking around wearing pretty things.

Look 1: I tried on this Erdem x H&M dress when the collection was released last month and loved it, although it was still out of my price range. It was one of my favorite looks from their collaboration.

Look 2: This one is the miss for me. The designer is Antonio Maras and it’s a mess- just a hodgepodge of tacky, from the ruching to the embellishments.

Look 3: This is a rare Alexander Vauthier that I like. His stuff trends towards the sheer and skimpy. But this is so Dynasty and shiny and over the top in a way that suits her.

Look 4: Straight off the runway from Erdem’s most recent non-H&M collection, this is a lovely English garden of a dress.
