Royals: Meghan Markle at the Endeavour Awards

When I covered Meghan’s January engagements I said “she’s shown a tendency towards pants and messy hair, so I look forward to hopefully seeing her try her hand at cocktail wear and an updo next month”….

It may still be the beginning of the month, but Meghan’s latest outing fulfills neither of my wishes. Won’t she think of all the poor fashion wonks across the pond!?

Red Carpet: Almost Everyone Looks Amazing at the Black Panther Premiere

Perhaps the most colorful and joyous red carpet of all time.

This is just EXTRA. The color is phenomenal, the hardware is amazing – like an amazon warriors breastplate, and her towering stalk of hair is so interesting and powerful. She’s carrying this all so well.

Royals: Kate’s January Outings (Plus Charlotte!)

Awards season has me unconscionably behind on Kate’s outings, particularly since this week she and Will went on an official Royal Tour to Sweden and Norway. Let’s see what Kate has been up to in January first though, but stay tuned for the Nordic trip coverage next week!

Royals: Meghan and Harry’s January Outings

Awards Season is a real bitch. And then the royals have to go and leave the house. Not to mention, I am completely ignoring Paris Fashion Week at the moment! Don’t bring out your tiny violins for my just yet, I’m holding my own – although dreadfully behind on the comings and goings of Meghan and Harry. Consider this your official January update on these crazy kids.

Grammys: Not As Bad As Usual!

In the past I have declined to write about the Grammys, because let’s face it, they’re usually a hot mess sartorially. This year was a bit more tempered with some genuinely interesting and surprising looks.

Lorde was the only Album of the Year contender NOT offered a solo performing slot…and she also happened to be the only woman nominated. Couple that with the appallingly tone-deaf statement from the Recording Academy President that women needed to “step up” to get more parity in nominations, we have a major problem. Women released some of the best, most powerful, timely music this year. From Kesha and Cardi B to Lorde and SZA, they’ve stepped up. The problem is, the old white men in charge aren’t listening.

Anyway, Lorde wore a lovely red Valentino to NOT perform in, and sewed the following passage from artist Jenny Holzer onto the back: ”

“Rejoice! Our times are intolerable. Take courage, for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstance can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors. The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Contradiction will be heightened. The reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom.”

Performing or not, THAT’S a mic drop.

Royals: Princess Eugenie Gets Engaged!

2018 will be a rare “two royal wedding” year, and personally, I could not be more excited!

On January 22, Buckingham Palace announced the engagement of Princess Eugenie of York to her longtime boyfriend Jack Brooksbank. They will marry this fall at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle – the same location Harry and Meghan have chosen. Eugenie is one of Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren, and the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, Duchess of York. She is eighth in the line of succession to the throne.

SAG Awards: Blacks, Whites, and Neutrals

I saved this one for last, since after the Globes I really don’t have much more to say about a black dress.

This could have been nice except for the poor Muppet they stapled to her waist.

SAG Awards: And SO Much Color!

After everyone going all in on black for the Globes, I can’t blame them for injecting some color into the always colorfully ridiculous SAG’s.

I was at a party over the weekend and we were talking about our celebrity “freebies”, ie: the famous folks those of us in a relationship get a free pass to sleep with should you run into them at a bar. All the men in the room mentioned Alison Brie, which I was honestly surprised by! I wouldn’t have pegged her a “sex symbol”, but maybe that’s just in “nerdy bro” circles. Either way, she’s not on MY list, and neither is this dress. I appreciate the lighting bolt nod to her OTT costumes on “Glow”, but this feels a little too tacky.

SAG Awards: So Many Sparkles!

Guys, SO many people wore sparkles on Sunday. Naturally, I like about 90% of these.

This is super – I love the bronze color and the way the dress gathers itself into the rose on her shoulder is so elegantly done.

The Critic’s Choice Awards: The Best (?) of the Rest

Finally closing out the Critic’s Choice Awards after contending with a bout of suspected food poisoning. I’m dedicated to this blog, but not “scrolling through Getty Images on the bathroom floor” dedicated. Let’s wrap this up before the SAG’s on Sunday!

Yes, it’s in her usual color range of black or white, but I am digging the feathers she’s been deploying lately. Much like “Put a Bird On It”, a few feathers can go a long way in making things less boring.
