Let’s take a deep dive into today’s very exciting royal engagement announcement!

EDIT: Some updates since yesterday:

-The wedding will take place at Windsor Castle (St. George’s Chapel) in May 2018 (Kate will give birth in April)

-Meghan will become a UK citizen after they marry

-Their first joint engagement will be on Friday (check back here for coverage!)

-The Royal Family will pay for the ceremony (I mean, duh)

Red Carpet: 2017 Governors Awards

And the first Oscars have been handed out! Mostly a good excuse to have a red carpet, let’s see who’s already out ahead in the awards season fashion race.

I like the sum of this more than the parts. The embroidery is beautiful, the crop top and skirt are silly, but the overall vibe is very J. Law, and better than what Dior has done to her the last few years.

Red Carpet: Kate Bosworth Goes 7/8

I find Kate Bosworth fascinating. Nominally an actress, she seems to make her bread and butter walking around wearing pretty things.

Look 1: I tried on this Erdem x H&M dress when the collection was released last month and loved it, although it was still out of my price range. It was one of my favorite looks from their collaboration.

Look 2: This one is the miss for me. The designer is Antonio Maras and it’s a mess- just a hodgepodge of tacky, from the ruching to the embellishments.

Look 3: This is a rare Alexander Vauthier that I like. His stuff trends towards the sheer and skimpy. But this is so Dynasty and shiny and over the top in a way that suits her.

Look 4: Straight off the runway from Erdem’s most recent non-H&M collection, this is a lovely English garden of a dress.

Red Carpet: SAG AFTRA Events

Awards season glad-handing is officially underway, and the Screen Actors Guild has been throwing various parties.

I loved Get Out, and would be thrilled if it was nominated for some stuff this season. I also love this weird little dress and would like to nominate it for a spot in my closet. However, I can’t find a designer credit for it and it’s driving me insane. My best guesses were Oscar de la Renta, Christian Dior, or Schiaparelli, but a quick look through their 2017/18 collections and I couldn’t find it.

EDIT: I was right! It’s Schiaparelli– she just tagged them in a post on Instagram.

Royals: A Melange of Middleton Maternity Looks

Kate has been leaving the house and resuming her normal schedule of royal duties since her bout with severe morning sickness last month. A few re-wears and a few new looks:

Look 1 is a Diane von Furstenberg that she first wore in 2014. It’s pretty unimpeachable and classic Kate. The event is in support of the Anna Freud Centre, which works on children’s mental health issues. Apparently it’s one of 8 main initiatives that are part of Heads Together, Kate, William, and Harry’s primary philanthropic endeavor.

Looks 2 and 3 were for Remembrance Day events. The first is a new Dolce and Gabbana coat, with an oft repeated Philip Treacy hat. Sophie, Countess of Wessex, also looks great here. She’s been knocking it out of the park lately. The second look is another new look from her go-to for classic coats, Catherine Walker.

Looks 4 and 5 are both re-wears and both from GOAT, another one of Kate’s go-to’s for simple coats and dresses. Both are a total meh for me.

Red Carpet: CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards honor up and coming designers– past winners have included Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, and Rodarte. So it’s kinda a big deal. This years winner was Telfar, a Liberian-American designer I hadn’t heard of before. Turns out, he showed his first collection 12 years ago and is known for his basic, gender neutral looks. The red carpet saw stars wearing everyone from 2017 nominees, to past winners, to established powerhouses.

This is FIRE. A total slam dunk. I hadn’t heard of this model before, but apparently she is the face of FENTY, Rihanna’s beauty line. Adam Selman was a runner up for 2016’s award, and the designer behind Rihanna’s  infamous see-through crystallized dress from the 2014 awards, so their connection makes sense.

Red Carpet: Rita Ora Forgets to Get Dressed

This might be my favorite thing to happen in fashion in 2017. It’s bathroom chic. It’s hilariously on the nose, while subversively thumbing its nose at the fashion industry.

It’s a brand called Palomo Spain, and when it was originally shown, there was no towel head wrap. That’s all Rita, and it’s brilliant and hilarious and so, SO, absurd.

She chose a shorter version for her EMA performance, and it looks even more like she just stepped out of the shower, only to be shocked to find herself on stage.

Never change, Rita. Never change.

Red Carpet: LACMA and Gucci Bring the Crazy

Gucci actually fits this event (LACMA Art and Film Gala) really well. But that doesn’t mean some of what they foisted on people wasn’t still insane. Unless otherwise noted, everyone is wearing Gucci.

Red Carpet: MURDER!!! (On the Orient Express)

No one, not even fashion (har har har…), was murdered on this red carpet.
